Gillian Hughes started Titfers nearly 15 years ago and the idea was to hire out designer hats.   Some milliners were not too happy with the idea of hire but a very well respected one called Joan Biggs was willing to allow Gillian to hire out her beautiful hats.

When Joan decided she no longer wished to make hats, Gillian had to find another designer, but no one in her opinion could make such beautiful hats as Joan. So she set about finding someone to block her some hats and using her 40 years knowledge of sewing began learning how to trim them.

Titfers now enjoy an excellent reputation for making hats to customer’s orders and alongside her bespoke hats and fascinators, Gillian now makes matching jewellery.  Titfers still hire out hats but bespoke is now by far the most popular choice.
